Master in Community Health Management

Description

The Master in Community Health Management (MCHM) is a special offering of the Ateneo Graduate School of Business for municipal health officers (MHOs) participating in  the Leaders for Health Program (LHP). The master’s degree aims to provide the necessary competencies to physicians given the responsibility of managing the health, not just of individuals, but of entire communities. These competencies deal with personal mastery such as reflective action, informed decision making and a sense of transcendence. Group and interpersonal skills are also instilled such as effective communication and group process management. Finally, technical competencies such as strategy formulation, organizational management and development, collaboration and participation, project development and management, development communication and social marketing and, research and evaluation are likewise developed or enhanced.

The degree program consists of nine academic terms spread over the three-year duration of the program.  Each term is made up of two to three weeks of intensive face-to-face with faculty at the Ateneo Professional Schools.  In between terms, students return to their communities to apply what they have learned and gather additional materials that they will bring to their next class.

The curriculum delves into areas of interest and concern that complements the medical education of its participating physician-students. It is both comprehensive and multi-disciplinary in its approach with adequate avenues for intensive and closely-monitored field applications, all with the objective of developing effective leaders and managers of local health systems.
